Ever thought about why most people have glowing smooth and free from summer acne? Ever thought why most people visit their dermatologist less likely? Yes, because they don’t get skin problems more often and that’s because they have a good skincare routine.

A proper skincare routine can not only give you good smooth skin but also prevent you from hazardous side effects like skin cancers and erosions. Many people struggle with what products should be applied because there is much saturation.

I usually recommend my clients to go with simple products. The choice of ingredients should be made wisely, keeping in mind the sensitivity of the skin. Here are some tips to build a good skincare routine. Inside, I recommended products that are effective in nurturing healthy, clean, and blemish-free skin.

What to Do to Build a Good Skincare Routine

1. Wash Your Face with Lukewarm Water

After waking up, the first thing one can do is washing the face with lukewarm water. It should be an integral part of one’s daily skincare routine because it is important to remove the outer layer of dirt before applying anything.

Apart from this, it also helps in the opening up of pores. The dirt, sebum, and sweat get clogged in the skin’s pores, leading to deleterious side effects. Therefore, start your day with lukewarm water.

The method to apply it is simple. Just wash your face with it, and no need to go rough with it. Many dermatologists recommend rose water to start the skincare routine, but I don’t want to make things complex for you. (Cacciapuoti et al., 2020)

2. Use Good Cleanser

After hydrating the skin with lukewarm water, the next step is cleansing the layer of dirt, sebum, and previous makeup. A lot of my patients are confused as to which product they should buy.

In a nutshell, I would say go for something simple and natural. Especially if you have sensitive skin, it’s vital to have a check at the ingredients to see if there’s any harsh chemical.

I recommend my clients to try La Roche-Posay cleansers as they are readily available, affordable, and dermatologically tested.

The method to apply the cleanser is also very much important. After washing the face with lukewarm water, pour some cleanser over the palm of the hands and then apply the cleanser with the help of fingertips on the face. Never rub it too hard and after massaging it for fifteen seconds, clean your face again with lukewarm water.

If you feel any irritation, immediately consult a dermatologist. (Mukhopadhyay, 2011; Yuanxi et al., 2016)

3. Don’t Forget About a Toner

Toner closes the skin’s pores and makes it perfect for applying whatever you want, especially makeup. It also helps in balancing the pH level of your skin.

Different toners are available in the market, and the only need is to pick the toner designed for your skin type. Personally, I recommend aloe vera and rose water as ingredients for your toner.

4. Use Vitamin C, Glycol, and Hyaluronic Acid

Now it’s time to revitalize and nourish your skin. There are a lot of serums out there that promise different things. I believe in serums that contain hyaluronic acid, glycol, essential vitamins like C and oils.

These serums play an essential role as vitamin C helps in the anti-oxidation of skin. Hyaluronic acid helps strengthen the face tone, and other mentioned ingredients provide all the necessary nourishment to the skin, which helps it glow.

I recommend that you use Vitamin C serum. Apply it over the skin gently with the help of fingertips, and don’t rub it hard. Incorporate these serums as a part of your skincare routine once a day. (Messaraa et al., 2020; Mukhopadhyay, 2011; Yuanxi et al., 2016)

5. Use Sunscreen

Going out with sensitive skin and not applying sunscreen over it? It’s havoc. Make it a requirement to apply sunscreen before going out.

Sunscreens come in different SPF numbers. Always use a good SPF factor sunscreen.

It is important to note that always reapply the sunscreen after two to four hours because it vanishes with time. The method of application of sunscreen is straightforward. Just after cleansing the face, apply it gently over the face and don’t massage it hard.

The irritation associated with sunscreen is usually due to having sensitive skin. Immediately consult your dermatologist if you are having such symptoms.

I recommend Neutrogena Ultra Dry-Touch Sunscreen SPF 55(Mukhopadhyay, 2011; Shanbhag et al., 2019)

Bonus tip: if you’re going swimming, take precautions to protect your hair from salt water.

6. Moisturize

Coming up to moisturizing and hydrating the skin, a good moisturizer is recommended by dermatologists to be included in your skincare routine. It hydrates the skin to ensure plump and healthy-looking skin.

I usually recommend POND’S moisturizers because they are readily available and have good efficacy.

When to Apply Medicines Over the Skin?

If you have acne or are enormously struggling with breakouts, it is mandatory to get yourself checked by a dermatologist who prescribes you adapalene and retinoids.

Apply it at night with a precaution. After cleaning the face, apply in the form of spots and don’t massage it hard.

About ninety percent of people develop irritation with it. That’s a serious issue and should be consulted with a health care practitioner.

One more thing is to avoid sun exposure after applying those skin-peeling solutions. It’ll darken your skin and leave a darker skin tone. (Suleyman Piskin, 2007)

Conclusion

A good skincare routine should be adopted to have glowing, blemish-free, and fresh skin. Many people underestimate the importance of skincare. It results a mess of a skincare routine that will eventually harming their skin.

Always follow a proper skincare routine as mentioned above to have good skin. All the skincare products should be used according to the dermatologist’s prescription.
