As the 5G network continues to roll out across the globe, the next generation of wireless communication is being operated or driven by the latest technology called mmWave.  5G mmWave with its speed, reliability, and ease of implementation will drive several developments for various industries in the coming years – technology (5G mmWave) will bring a real improvement to our daily lives, be it work, health, or travel. So, now let us look into importance of 5G mmWave and testing with RantCell Mobile Network Monitoring Tools, Mobile Network Drive Test Tools, Mobile Network Testing Tools and RantCell RF drive test tools & equipment, RF tester software app & network LTE 4g tester.

What is 5G mmWave?

The mmWave (millimeter wave) is a new technology used by 5G networks, called 5G mmWave. The 5G mmWave is a progressive cellular technology that provides access to massive bandwidth and capacity available in frequency bands above 24 GHz. The “low band” frequencies and the “sub-6GHz” frequencies are components of the standard mmWave, and both the technologies are combindly designed to offer much faster data speeds with more bandwidth and many other benefits. The term mmWave refers to a specific part of the radio frequency spectrum (between 24GHz and 100GHz) that has a very short wavelength, so since this segment of the spectrum is new, mmWave technology plays an important role to increase the amount of bandwidth available. The mmWave plays a major part in the 5G, and it allows for extremely high bandwidth and shows off the most impressive data speed figures.

The mmWave technology can increase the data bandwidth available over smaller, densely populated areas thus, it will play a pivotal role in 5G and several applications such as many cities, malls, and convention centers, powering data in sports stadiums, as well as anywhere where data congestion might be a problem.

Both the frequency specifications such as mmWave and sub-6 GHz are associated with 5G NR (New Radio) and therefore allotted for 5G cellular network technology. But among these two frequency specifications, the mmWave specification maximizes the full network potential of 5G wireless connectivity. Now, a question comes, do 5G mmWave deployments (in the globe) use a 5G non-standalone (NSA) or 5G (SA) configuration? The answer is 5G non-standalone (NSA) configuration – a report revealed by Chip vendor Qualcomm.

Advantages/Benefits of 5G mmWave

The network running on the millimeter-wave specification (5G mmWave) can provide faster data transmission speeds, higher bandwidth, and dramatic reductions in network latency compared to sub-6 GHz networks, as well as 4G LTE and LTE Advanced networks.

  • The mmWave 5G can provide a data transmission speed of 200 Mbps to more than 1 Gbps, while Sub-6 GHz can provide data transmission speeds of around 50 Mbps to 200 Mbps and around 50 Mbps can be provided by LTE Advanced.
  • Network latency of 5G mmWave is fewer than 10 milliseconds whereas the LTE and LTE Advanced have a latency of 20 to 30 milliseconds.
  • 5G network based on the mmWave specification has a bandwidth (higher bandwidth supports faster and more efficient data transmission) of around 1 Gbps.
  • The network performance of mmWave 5G is also an alternative to fiber-based wired communication, hence offering new opportunities for commercial and residential applications’ wireless broadband services.

Conclusion

The use of mmWave 5G spectrum (implementation of new 5G mobile standards) is expected to make major changes to the cellular industry – the high throughput and capacity of mmWave could lead to a focus on cost-effective 5G deployments. So here it comes network testing, which is important for 5GmmWave, and for this, you can use tools like RantCell that help you (mobile operators, and regulators) to measure Quality of Experience (QoE) with improved efficiency.
